Running on Auto-Pilot-Athletes and Actors
We see their performances, sometimes relish their pay and lifestyle,
but are content dealing with the only tip of the iceberg. But what
about their personal lives? Are their lives a mess, or are they
successful, balanced and happy? What about the performances in each
of our lives? Is what others see only the tip of our iceberg? As a
consultant, mentor/coach and trainer who speaks, others look to me
for inspiration, information, even wisdom. Children look to their
parents for guidance, security and love. Lovers and friends look to
each other for support, caring, understanding. Students look to
teachers for access to knowledge. As social creatures we live,
laugh, prosper and die among our fellow creatures -- looking both
inward and to them for meaning and recognition. How much of that
time are we awake, aware, alert and responsible in our
interactions? And, how often do we run on auto-pilot, showing only
the tip? We can even ask, how open are we to letting others see more
than the tip?
Are you running on auto-pilot most of the time? Or, are you mindful
of your world and your surroundings? Wake up! Savor and examine the
moment -- then turn off the auto-pilot, awaken yourself, be present
in your moment and choose to give your best.
