Trial and Error from Julia Child

Almost everyone has heard of Julia Child, TV's French Chef, and of her recent passing. Julia was an important influence in my life. As a freshman in college, I misspent my scholarship monies in the first semester. My family refused to send money (rightly figuring it would be spent partying) but sent food. Not wanting to give up my social life, I decided I must learn to cook and Julia was my TV teacher. She also taught me lessons of life and business and gave me a wonderful hobby - cooking. One story stands out. She told of learning to make French bread and how she purchased 5 lbs of flour, among other ingredients. Even I knew that a few cups of flour was all that was needed for a loaf of bread. As the show progressed, Julia told of soupy loaves, brick-like loaves until finally towards the end of her 5 lbs., she had a great loaf.
