  What's Your Succession Plan?

Most people think about Succession Planning as part of the process of selling a business, or in relation to key executive transition. Those are two of the aspects of succession, but there is more, much more. Succession can be about any instance of transition where who and what come next, count. If you are in, or contemplate, transition, the most important things you can do are to think through and decide upon the outcomes you'd like to see happen, then craft a written plan to make your desires a reality.

When faced with a succession situation, decide the outcomes you want to see happen, enlist the aid of the professionals in the succession process (usually succession consultants, financial planners, accountants and/or attorneys), craft your plan with contingencies and set about making the plan a reality.
